Steve Murdoch OBE joined Rud Pedersen in 2025 as Senior Military Adviser, attached to the London office. He offers clients an unmatched combination of military, defence industry, policy and procurement expertise following a long career in the UK’s Royal Navy and subsequently with Babcock International Group.
With extensive experience leading high-calibre teams, he has driven major contract successes in Britain and around the world, shaping the future of defence design, build, and support.
Holding senior positions during more than a decade at Babcock International, Steve spearheaded the global market positioning of the Arrowhead 140 Frigate and led major bids, helping to secure key contracts in Indonesia, Poland, and the UK. A strategic thinker with a proven track record in delivering innovative solutions, he has successfully navigated complex governmental and military relationships to drive business growth.
Previously, Steve served 33 years in the Royal Navy, both in operational appointments at sea and staff appointments ashore which included serving as Executive Assistant to the First Sea Lord, Chief of the Navy, based at the Ministry of Defence in London. His military service culminated in the rank of Captain and as Commanding Officer of HMS Raleigh near Plymouth, the largest Royal Navy training establishment.
Awarded an OBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Steve holds an MBA in Supply Chain & Strategic Relationship Management from Bath University. He is an experienced board adviser, strategic consultant, and ambassador for defence and maritime innovation.
