Michael Flueh

Michael Flueh has had a long career in the European Commission and in the private sector.
He joined the European Commission in 1995 and worked initially as an inspector in the field of plant health. As Head of Unit, he had responsibility for various areas in the field of food safety, including pesticides and biocides, plant health and seeds, biotechnology, contaminants, food improvement agents and food contact material, and as acting Director in 2015 also labelling, nutrition and food waste, all in the Directorate-General Health and Food Safety. In 2017 he took over the Unit REACH in DG GROW, where his unit was mainly responsible for the authorisation and restriction processes for chemicals. Furthermore, he attended regularly meetings of the Management Board of the European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki. At the end of his career in the Commission he joined the task force for scaling-up COVID vaccine production.
Prior to the Commission he worked for a multinational agrochemical company as an R&D manager in Germany.
Michael has a master degree as Agricultural Engineer with a PhD in Plant Nutrition.
